With the third-best overall record in the Coastal Plain League this summer, the Wilson Tobs will have almost an entire lineup representing them at the CPL All-Star Game, which returns Sunday after a three-year absence.
Eight Tobs were among the 28 players on the East roster that was announced Saturday by the summer collegiate baseball league. Third baseman Aaron Smigelski of Rice and outfielder Ethan Ott of UNC Pembroke are the only starters for the East from Wilson. Starters were determined by the amount of votes received from players, coaches and media representatives within each division. The other Tobs selected for duty in the 2022 CPL All-Star Game, the first since 2019 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, are first baseman Matt Schark, shortstop Efry Cervantes, outfielder Trey Paige, utility player Jacob McCaskey and pitchers Brent Francisco and Trent Harris.
The rest of the East starting lineup will be Morehead City Marlins right-handed pitcher Tyler Wehrle on the mound, Robert Brooks of Holly Springs behind the plate, Tri-City Chili Peppers' Brandon Eike at first base, McGwire Tuffy of Morehead City at second, Wilmington Sharks' Taber Mongero at shortstop, Peninsula Pilots' Elijah Dickerson at DH and Morehead City's Sean Johnson and Ben Watson in the outfield.
The game is set for Sunday, July 10, at 5:40 p.m. at Ting Stadium in Holly Springs.
