Christian bookstore’s grand opening features local author

A children's author will read her new book and sign copies during a Saturday grand opening celebration for A Heart for God Bible and Christian Bookstore.

Attendees can meet Lenette D. Britt from noon to 5 p.m. at the 114 Nash St. SW bookstore. Britt is scheduled to read "My Heart is Broken; Who Can Fix It? Let's Ask 'Hope' the Healing Bear," at 2 p.m.

The rhyming book featuring illustrations by Jerry Taylor is meant to help children coping with bullying, abuse, trauma, low self-esteem, the loss of a loved one, physical pain, guilt and shame.

"I believe this book and the help it has provided to others has the power and ability to heal what and who has been hurt," Britt said in a news release.

A Rocky Mount resident, Britt is owner of Crawl Walk Run Productions 2, which offers seminars for singles and married couples, team-building workshops for businesses, schools and other groups and dinner theater and stage plays that promote healthy and happy relationships. She said "My Heart is Broken" is her eighth book.

"Although it is a book for children, we found that adults are finding this book helpful for themselves to cope with issues of their past they have been dealing with," Britt said.

The book helps readers recognize traumatic experiences in their lives and guides them through the healing process. Britt organizes Hope the Healing Bear paint parties as a companion activity.

"The stories I have heard after the adults drew pictures of what has hurt them are heartbreaking," Britt said. "However, as a result, they received their breakthroughs."

A Heart for God Bible and Christian Bookstore opened in February in a leased building across from the Wilson County Courthouse. The shop is an outpost of A Heart For God International Ministries, which holds Sunday worship services for its congregation at the bookstore and offers courses in spiritual development, global missions, prayer and discipleship and mentoring through the A Heart For God Institute.
