WAKE FOREST — The Wake Forest Board of Commissioners unanimously voted to abandon a portion of the Caddell Street right-of-way to be used for the coming Wake Forest Food Hall.

"We won't make any changes to the road," Mayor Vivian Jones said. "It's just that little strip on the side that was originally part of the right-of-way, but we don't really need it anymore because the road has been built and the sidewalks have been built, and so that's just kind of land that's sitting there not being used."

That portion of Caddell Street right-of-way will be part of parking space for the food hall. The board March 21 approved a resolution declaring intent to close that portion of Caddell Street. The town of Wake Forest committed money to pave unpaved roads in 2013, and Caddell Street was part of these improvements. The street went from a one-way unpaved road to a paved curb and gutter road with sidewalk on one side of it. But this left excessive right-of-way space.

According to Discover Wake Forest, the developer, Alliance Group of NC will preserve and transform a building, a former car dealership, to create the food hall.
