Rolesville celebrates college-bound athletes

ROLESVILLE — Rolesville High celebrated nine of its student athletes continuing their academic and athletic careers at the next level during its spring signing ceremony May 18.

“This is a sad time for us to see you leave, but it is also an exciting time and we are happy for you that you are going to enter this next stage of your lives and careers,” Rolesville athletic director Tom Kinkelaar said.

Four members of the Rams football program signed during the event and all four will be staying in North Carolina.

Jordan Monroe and Dejuan Mickens will be sticking together at the next level, with both headed to Fayetteville State University.

Rory Jones Amen Hetep is headed to N.C. A&T University. Reginald Love II will be joining Mack Brown and the UNC-Chapel Hill Tar Heels.

Two members of the girls basketball program that won its first conference title, went further in the NCHSAA tournament than ever before and set a new program record for wins, will be continuing at the next level.

Destiny Carless is headed to Francis Marion University in Florence, South Carolina, while Deaysha Hartsfield will be staying close to home and join the Louisburg College Hurricanes.

Two members of the Rolesville baseball team will be staying in North Carolina, with Dylan Mason joining Barton College in Wilson and Blake Faulkner heading to UNC-Pembroke.

Oumou Sall will be joining the Queens University cheer program.

The event included a heartfelt thank you to Kinkelaar, who is retiring, from athletes, coaches, boosters and other school staff members.

“I think the best compliment I can give any educator is that I would be proud to allow my son to play for you,” Rolesville principal Phelan Perry said.  “Parents trust their kids to come to school and they trust that they are going to be done right. I would trust my son to play for you and I think that is the biggest compliment I can give.”
