ZEBULON — Kerrigan Brown made history June 25.
By winning the Miss North Carolina Outstanding Teen pageant in High Point, Brown became the first Miss Zebulon representative to take the state title. Now, Brown will prepare for the Miss America Outstanding Teen competition in Dallas, Texas, set for August 10-12.
“I’m still in shock,” Brown said. “It means a lot to win this title — it took a lot of hard work and dedication, and I’m excited about heading to the Miss America Outstanding Teen competition.”
Brown, a rising senior at Cape Fear High in Fayetteville, isn’t new to excelling in pageants, becoming a Carolina princess for two years starting at the age of 5. Brown won Miss Raleigh Outstanding Teen in 2021 before working with Miss Zebulon Organization director Tracy Alford this year.
Miss Zebulon, Sara Beth Howard, also made history June 25 in the Miss North Carolina pageant. There has never been a representative from the town finish in the Top 10.
According to the Miss North Carolina website, the Miss North Carolina Outstanding Teen program is a division of the Miss N.C. Organization for young women between the ages of 13 and 18. The Miss North Carolina pageant is for candidates between the ages of 19 and 26. There are no residency requirements for local Outstanding Teen competitions.
Brown said she loves Zebulon and is thankful to represent the town.
“I fell in love with the community,” Brown said. “Zebulon is known for having some of the friendliest people and that’s what I’ve seen.”
There has never been a North Carolina representative to win Miss America Outstanding Teen in the 17-year history of the program. Brown said she hopes to become the first.
“I’ve been prepared for this moment,” Brown said. “Ever since I was a Carolina Princess, I focused on getting to the next level. When I head to Dallas, I’m going to give my all and show the judges who I am — hopefully I’ll be able to bring the title home.”
