Don’t miss Wake Forest’s 41st annual fireworks display July 3

Roving

It’s just one week until the big show! Don’t miss the 41st annual Wake Forest fireworks show July 3 at Wake Forest High School.

This year’s program is one of the largest fireworks shows since 1973, and is the first time Zambelli Fireworks will present the “the most creative and innovative pyrotechnics in the world,” here in Wake Forest.

The stadium gates open at 6 p.m.

After the invocation and color guard, the national anthem will be sung by Heritage High graduate Kaitlyn Weddle. The Friendship Chapel Choir and Apples & Airplanes are among the opening acts.

Raleigh musicians Band of Oz will perform starting at 6:30 p.m. and the Don Carrington Skydiving Team of will make a jump, landing on the field in front of the spectators just before dark. Carrington will be the last one out, carrying a waving American flag, which always brings cheers.

I’ve been attending the event every year since 1973, and it’s the biggest bang for five bucks you’ll ever get.

Tickets are available at The Wake Weekly office, Chamber of Commerce, NC General Stores, For Old Times Sake Antiques, All About Hair & Nails, Aloha Tan and Town & Country Hardware in (Gateway Commons).

A book of five tickets are $20. Children 6 and under are admitted free. Cash payments only are accepted at the gate as well as for concessions offered at the stands.

Alexia comes to the rescue

Did you ever fall in love with a certain color shirt and the same one in another color just won’t do?

Just before Father’s Day, I saw an ad for Kohl’s in The Wake Weekly which had a beautiful blue Grand Slam knit shirt similar to one I got last year. I remember the shirt very well because it was the last one of that color on the rack in my size and I quickly grabbed it. It is still my favorite.

I went to the store to look for the shirt, but was disheartened to learn all in that color were gone. I called the other Kohl’s in Wakefield and asked the clerk about the shirt, but after his looking for 15 minutes, they didn’t have any either. But, he added, they have trucks arriving daily, and maybe one will come in.

Mavis and I decided to check the Wake Forest Kohl’s again at 10 p.m., with the NightOwls Sale underway.

Isn’t it strange how a love for something can drive you to almost any length?

After looking again and still not finding the blue shirt, a clerk helped us try to find it on the store’s computer kiosk.

Alexia was extremely helpful as she helped us look for that shirt on the computer for more than 20 minutes.

I received two e-mail responses Monday.

The perfect blue shirt in my size arrived by second day mail Wednesday, with no charge for delivery.

Thankfully, Alexia helped us. We would never have been able to make that order by pushing the buttons like she did.

Lesson learned: Never give up on something you love!
