Tucker’s 30 points lift Lady Warriors to win

OXFORD — Ta’ida Tucker has been waiting her turn to shine for the Webb Lady Warriors. As a senior, Tucker’s time is now, and she is making the best of it as she scored 30 points in the 63-56 win over Granville Central on Friday night.



Tucker fired up the first 5 points for the Lady Warriors, while Sydney Morgan scored the first 4 points for the Lady Panthers.

The battle was on from that point forward.  

The Lady Warriors began to pull away with Isreal Thorpe and Tucker combining for points. 

Granville Central continued to work in the lane with Morgan and Jada Burch making baskets.

Tucker’s basket gave Webb a 16-8 lead at the end of the first quarter.

Granville Central could not find any defense that would stop Tucker as she canned a 3-pointer.

Arriana White answered for Lady Panthers. 

Kyla Parks and Tierre McCaden’s baskets gave Webb a 24-12 lead.

Jada Green worked in the paint and scored for the Lady Panthers and Ayani Bagley found an opening from outside to keep Granville Central in the game.

Tucker continued to be a terror from the outside and in the lane. Tucker’s 3-pointer gave Webb a 33-18 lead. 

Zahera Aaloul scored in the lane for the Lady Panthers, and Green followed with one of two free throws.

Granville Central continued to fight back with Trinity Williams and Aaloul scoring to trim the Webb lead to 11 at 33-22.

Tucker once again dominated play and pushed the lead to 38-24 at the half.

Granville Central opened the third quarter with Williams and Green picking up baskets.

Webb answered with Tucker, McCaden and Parks scoring.

White drove toward the basket, forcing her defender to rock back on her heels. White stepped back beyond the arc and fired a 3-pointer.

Williams scored on a runner and Green made one of two from the line to slice into Webb’s lead.

With baskets by Bagley and Burch the Lady Panthers had cut Webb’s lead to 12 at 52-40 by the end of the third quarter.

Tucker came out firing in the fourth quarter with back-to-back baskets. Parks chipped in a basket to add to Webb’s lead.

White responded with a big 3-pointer, and the Lady Panther’s push was on. Williams, White and Burch scored to help Granville Central trim the lead to single digits at 60-51.

Parks picked up to quick baskets for the Lady Warriors.

Williams knocked down a basket and Alanah Applewhite drove in for a layup, but it was not enough as the Lady Warriors hung on for a 63-56 conference win.

Granville Central has a 4-2 overall record and Webb has a 5-1 record.

Both teams will participate in the Granville Central Holiday Tournament.
