County high schools Hunt and Beddingfield, both of the 3-A Eastern Carolina Conference, recently announced award winners for the winter sports season.
For Hunt High, siblings Victor
ia and Bobby White were recognized for their play on the hardwood.
Bobby, a senior point guard, led the Warriors to a first-round playoff win. He was named the team’s most outstanding offensive player. Senior Stepfernia Pitt was recognized as the best defensive player while Willie Harrison was tabbed most improved.
Victoria, a sophomore point guard, was one of the lone bright spots on a team that struggled this season.
Hunt’s swimmers enjoyed a fine season. Megan Davis, a state qualifier in two events, was named girls MVP. Keelan Kennedy and Nick Boykin shared the honor for the boys after leading the 200-yard freestyle team to a surprise state appearance.
Jackson Parker was named the MVP of the wrestling team and Sharneka Edwards took the same honor for cheerleading.
At Beddingfield, the state runner-up girls basketball team didn’t produce a team MVP. However, all 10 players were recognized in some form or fashion.
The boys team suffered through a disappointing season, but sophomore Terry Davis enjoyed a standout year and was named the team’s most outstanding player.
Victor Perez (wrestling), Bankston Lewis (boys swimming) and Hope Hughes (girls swimming) were named MVPs in their respective sports.
Hughes was a regional qualifier in the 100 backstroke.
