Billy Earl Kirby, a World War II veteran and Bronze Star recipient living in Wilson, was recently interviewed for the YouTube channel Remember WWII with Rishi Sharma.

“Mr. Kirby is a man I would fly halfway across the world in a heartbeat to meet,” said Sharma, the 25-year-old behind the channel. “He saw so much action as a front-line machine gun section leader across Italy. He fought in some of the toughest battles in the entire war, and he is so friendly and has a wonderful memory and is just a great person. He exudes the Greatest Generation.”

Sharma said that his interview with Kirby should be available on YouTube in a couple of weeks.

“I’m on a mission to meet and interview every single World War II veteran of the allied countries,” Sharma said, adding that he started his mission while he was still in high school.

Since starting his journey six years ago, Sharma said he has interviewed more than 1,700 World War II veterans across 49 U.S. states, Canada, the United Kingdom, Australia and New Zealand.

Sharma said he is looking for other local World War II combat veterans to interview while he is in North Carolina. Anyone who wishes to recommend a veteran can call or text him at 202-315-8743.

In order to fulfill his goal, Sharma said he’s been living out of his car while traveling to interview veterans.
