Weather, speed lead to Wilson fatality

A 21-year-old Wilson man died early Saturday after losing control of his car and hitting a tree, police said.
Trovin McCoy Jr., of Wilson, lost control of his vehicle when driving east down a hill on Hines Street toward Manchester Street, according to Kolly Burritt, spokesperson for the Wilson Police. McCoy was killed and his three passengers injured when the vehicle hit a tree.
Thomas Parker, who was riding in the front passenger seat, remains in critical condition in Pitt County Memorial Hospital. Two rear-seat passengers, which were not identified by police, were treated and released from Wilson Medical Center.
Speed and winter-weather conditions were factors in the accident, Burritt said. Officers determined that the four passengers were wearing their seatbelts.
