Alumni association plans scholarship ball
The Williamson-Springfield Alumni Association will hold its annual scholarship ball from 9 p.m. Saturday, July 2, to 1 a.m. at the Wedgewood Public Golf Course country club, 3201 Old Stantonsburg Road.
The ball’s theme is “It’s Time to Dance Again.” DJ Zell Lucas will provide music, and attendees are invited to bring their own food and alcoholic beverages. Organizers ask those who drink to arrange for a ride home with a designated driver.

Entrepreneur camp sign-ups due July 6
The Small Business Center at Wilson Community College will host a Youth Entrepreneur Summer Camp for Wilson County residents ages 14-16 from Monday, July 25, through Thursday, July 28.
This event, made possible in part due to a grant from the Wilson Chamber of Commerce’s Executive Academy class of 2020, will introduce attendees to entrepreneurship training through experiential and facilitated learning activities under SBC Director Melissa Evans’ leadership. Participation is free, but advance registration is required by 1 p.m. on Wednesday, July 6.

Registration open for Youth Citizens Academy
Registration for the 2022 Youth Citizens Academy hosted by the city of Wilson’s Human Relations Office is open through Monday, July 11.
The academy will be a three-day session from July 18-20 open to ninth through 12th graders who attend school in Wilson County. Participants will meet from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. for each session at the Charles W. Pittman III Operations Center, 1800 Herring Ave.
Lunch will be provided at no cost. Students will have the opportunity to visit and interact with many city departments through hands-on activities and tours.

Basil, blackberry tasting slated
The N.C. Cooperative Extension’s Wilson office and Wilson Master Gardeners will host a basil and blackberry tasting at 3 p.m. Monday, July 18, at the Wilson Botanical Gardens, 1806 Goldsboro St. SW.
Cooperative Extension agents and Master Gardeners volunteers are growing many cultivars of basil and blackberries to evaluate differences in their growing habits. Members of the public are invited to join the growers for their harvest and provide feedback on appearance and taste.
Douglass alumni set 48th reunion weekend
ELM CITY — The Frederick Douglass High School Alumni Association will hold a 48-year reunion on Friday, Aug. 12, and Saturday, Aug. 13.
The alumni meeting will be held at noon Aug. 12 at the 205 Dixon St. alumni house in Elm City.
The reunion banquet is planned from 3-5 p.m. Aug. 13 at the Darden Alumni Center, 1700 Lipscomb Road in Wilson. Guest speaker is the Rev. Phillip Rountree, principal of Wilson Preparatory Academy. Admission is $30.
After the meeting, a meet-and-greet is planned from 7-9 p.m. at the Darden Alumni Center. Cost to attend is $10.
