WAKE FOREST — The Wake Forest Lions Club received a $2,000 grant from Wake Electric Foundation in October 2021, which was earmarked for the purchase of building supplies for two Habitat Home Preservation projects in Wake Forest.
The families in the two homes chosen for the Home Preservation Project had to apply to Habitat of Wake County in order to be chosen to receive the repairs to their homes, and certain criteria had to be met.
After delays due to COVID-19 and the shortage of building supplies, the work on these two homes was finally completed this spring, along with the help from volunteers from Habitat and the Wake Forest Lions Club.
The first home of an elderly couple had the railings on a concrete ramp replaced as well as a place for their mailbox.
The second home had a back door with no way to get to the ground. Essentially, this elderly couple had only one usable entrance and exit to their home. This couple received a brand new deck with safe steps, which provided three safe and usable entrances and exits to their home.
