SMITHFIELD — Country music artist Aaron Tippin will headline this year's Ham & Yam Festival.
The Downtown Smithfield Development Corp. had teased a big-name headliner for the decades-old festival, and on Monday, it revealed Tippin, known for such hits as "Workin' Man's Ph.D." and "You've Got to Stand for Something."
"Aaron Tippin's energetic performance will bring a mix of patriotism, storytelling and unforgettable country tunes to the stage," the DSDC said in a Facebook post.
In all, Tippin has had three No. 1 songs on Billboard's Hot Country Songs — "There Ain't Nothin' Wrong with the Radio," "That's as Close as I'll Get to Loving You" and "Kiss This."
Along with "Workin' Man's Ph.D." and "You've Got to Stand for Something," his Top 10 hits include "I Wouldn't Have It Any Other Way," "My Blue Angel," "For You I Will" and "Where the Stars and Stripes and the Eagle Fly."
Tippin will perform at 7 p.m. Saturday, May 3, on the Neuse River Amphitheater on Front Street in downtown Smithfield. Admission is free.
