KNIGHTDALE — Police charged a Knightdale man with child sex offenses this week.

Eliseo Antonio Hernandez, 43, was arrested Sunday on two counts of taking indecent liberties with a child, the Knightdale Police Department said Tuesday.

Police said the victims’ mother reported the crimes in early September. Investigators worked with the family, child protective services and the district attorney’s office before pressing charges.

Officers secured warrants for Hernandez, of Morganite Street in Knightdale, on Nov. 4. He evaded police until Sunday, when he was arrested during a traffic stop around 1 p.m.

Hernandez was placed in the Wake County Detention Center under a $50,000 secured bond.

“Crimes perpetrated against our children are among the most heinous imaginable,” said Knightdale Police Chief Lawrence Capps. “The combined efforts of our investigators and criminal justice partners have ensured that Hernandez will be held accountable for his actions. It is our sincere hope that the victims and their families find a measure of closure in his arrest and can move forward in their recovery from this horrible trauma.”

Police didn’t say where the alleged crimes occurred or whether the victims knew the suspect.

Capps encourages any victim of abuse or sexual assault to report the crime immediately. Residents can report suspected child abuse, including sexual assault, in Wake County by calling 919-212-7990 for English or 919-212-7963 for Spanish speakers.
