Bringing her wealth of experience and business acumen, Jennis Toney-Carpenter has joined the planning committee of Spaulding Family Resource Center.
Toney-Carpenter is the president of the funeral home business established by her late father William T. Toney Sr. The business’ first funeral home sits next to the old Spaulding school, home to the resource center.
Toney Sr. and his wife, Clara Helen Mills-Toney, were among the 1974 charter members of the C.C. Spaulding Alumni Association. Mills-Toney served as a first grade primary school teacher at Spaulding on the same campus that’s now home to the resource center. She retired a long time ago and is now cared for by family at home.
Toney-Carpenter is married to Frank N. Carpenter Jr. and has a daughter, Jesslyn, and a stepdaughter, Joi.
Fellow planners Joseph Taybron, Patricia Wiggins Thorne, Carolyn Hodge Avent, the Rev. Earnest Pope and President John Perry welcome their center neighbor and her professional and personable service skills, Perry said.
“It’s a beautiful day in the neighborhood,” Perry said.
