ROCKY MOUNT — Boys & Girls Club members want to ensure homeless residents stay warm this winter.
The Lucy Ann Boddie Brewer Clubhouse has started a new project called the Warmth Chain. With each donation to the project, club members add a link to the chain.
As the chain grows, the club can help more people in the Twin Counties, said Desiree Dolberry, marketing and special events coordinator for the Boys & Girls Club of the Tar River Region, which has clubhouses in Rocky Mount, Nashville and Tarboro.
"We will collect items from now until Valentine's Day, and we will deliver these items to the local shelter," Dolberry said.
The project launched last week with Michael Shaw, the husband of past Boys & Girls Club CEO Theresa Shaw, and the Jones family. A donation of warm socks became the first link in the chain.
"We are asking that you help us to continue to add links to this chain," Dolberry said. "Your link in the chain could be gloves, scarves, blankets, or anything needed to keep our community warm this winter."
