OXFORD — School officials on Monday approved new principals at two campuses needed after one principal resigned.

Brenda Williamson will be the new principal at C.G. Credle Elementary School, replacing outgoing principal Sherrie Burns, who is resigning and moving to Pitt County.

Williamson is the current principal at Northern Granville Middle School. The principal there will now be Lisa Tusa, the current principal at South Granville High School.

The district said it is looking for a new principal to fill the role at South Granville.

The Granville County Board of Education approved the changes at its regular meeting Monday. They go into affect July 1.

"As we look toward a new academic year post-pandemic, we must innovate and adapt to the new types of needs our students and educators face," said Superintendent Alisa McLean in a statement. "More than ever, having excellent school leaders is critical to our success and I am confident these individuals will achieve just that."

Burns had worked for GCPS as a teacher and administrator for more than 15 years before her resignation.

"It is a huge loss to our school district, but I know that Mrs. Burns will be very successful as she continues her career in education in Pitt County," McLean said.

Williamson oversaw the merger of Mary Potter Middle School with Northern Granville Middle School and has been ad administrator for 5 years. McLean said Williamson taught at Northern Granville near the beginning of her career.

Tusa has been South Granville's principal for the last 13 years. McLean said moving to the middle school will be "a new chapter in her career" for which she is qualified and experienced.
