BROWNS SUMMIT – A pair of quick early goals stood as the difference in a 2-1 victory for the East squad in the boys soccer edition of the 2023 North Carolina Coaches Association East-West All-Star game at MacPherson Stadium on Tuesday.

Both of the East’s goals came in the first 13 minutes of the game, and Laney High grad Alexander Walker was named MVP as he assisted on both tallies.

The Times readership area was represented in the contest, with North Johnston’s Chance Davis and Greene Central’s Ariel Nunez both suiting up in the game.

Both earned their roster spots with stellar senior seasons, with Davis leading the Panthers with a whopping 52 goals last fall, and Nunez topping the Rams with 27.

Greene Central’s Ariel Nunez, center, vies for the ball during Tuesday’s NCCA East-West All-Star boys soccer match at Macpherson Stadium.

The East took a 1-0 lead just 3:49 into the game, as Walker fed a slick through ball through the defense to Jordan High’s Jaden Reece, who tapped it in for an easy goal.

Not 10 minutes later, Walker set up Green Hope’s Tyler Petz to make it a 2-0 game.

The West made it 2-1 on a tally from Brock Gramann of Providence in the 69th minute, but could not find the equalizer.

The East outshot the West 10-8 in the contest. Adam Maloy (Jordan) made two saves in goal for the East, while Gavin Banks (Charlotte Catholic) stopped four shots in defeat for the West.
