Soccer players represent at All-Star games

BROWNS SUMMIT — Local boys and girls soccer players competed in the N.C. Coaches’ Association East-West All-Star game held at Browns Summit just north of Greensboro July 12.

In the girls game, Heritage’s Brooklyn Holt and Rolesville’s Amelia Forster helped the East defeat the West 1-0. Laura Westerbeek scored off an assist from Maggie Stephens in the second half to give the East its only goal of the game.



Holt played 80 minutes at defending midfield with two shots on goal. Forster was subbed in and played 54 minutes.

In the boys match, Wake Forest’s Josh Rutland and Noah Kump competed for the East in a 3-3 draw against the West. The East outscored the West 2-1 in the first half, but then the West drew even in the second half with two goals while the East added one more with 14 minutes left in the match to end the match in a tie.

Kump was the starting goalkeeper for the East. He made eights saves out of 16 shots against him.
