Heritage volleyball closes out regular season strong

WAKE FOREST — Heritage’s volleyball team ended the regular season with a 3-0 (25-17, 25-16, 26-24) victory over Wake Forest at home Thursday, Oct. 13.

The Huskies won the first two sets with comfortable leads, but in the third set, the Cougars made them work for it. Heritage finally scored the final two points of the game to win 26-24 and complete the season sweep over its rivals.



Kate Dawson led Heritage with nine kills in the win. Kate Gross posted eight and Ashley Torsone recorded seven. Katie Gamber had a terrific game serving the ball with six aces.

Dawson also had a big game defensively with five blocks. Casey Cunningham also posted five blocks for the Huskies. Gross led the squad with seven digs and Brooke Poppe was first on the team with 19 assists.

With the win, Heritage finished the regular season 18-4 overall and second in the NAC 6 conference behind Millbrook at 8-2. The Huskies’ two losses in conference play were both to the Wildcats.

Wake Forest will make a push for the 4A state playoffs with an overall record of 8-15 and 5-6 in conference play. Wakefield finished third at 16-7 overall and 6-4 in the NAC 6.

The 4A playoff seeding will be determined after the NAC 6 conference tournament this week.
