Win streak ends Sunday for Post 13

WILMINGTON — After a few days off and a round of graduation ceremonies, the Wilson American Legion Post 13 baseball team saw its winning streak end at five games with a 12-2 loss Sunday at Wilmington Post 10.

In Sunday's game at Buck Hardee Field at Legion Stadium, Wilmington Post 10 hitters battered Post 13 pitchers for 10 hits to go with five walks and a pair of hit batters. Wilmington broke open a 1-1 game in the bottom of third on five hits and a walk by Post 13 starter Landon Coleman.

Post 10 added two more runs in the fifth and four in the sixth for the walk-off victory by mercy rule. Wilson had just five hits but couldn't benefit from five free passes and a hit-by-pitch by Post 10 pitchers. Starter Aiden McBride gave up one run on two hits and two walks in three innings to get the win.

Wilson got a run in the third when third baseman Tristan Stancil was hit by McBride's pitch, took third on center fielder Adyn Gooding's double to right field and scored on second baseman Jake Flower's sacrifice fly. Flowers scored in the fifth when he drew a one-out walk and eventually scored on right fielder Peyton Clay's single up the middle.

Right fielder Luke Vargo led Wilmington with a 3-for-4 showing and three RBIs.
