Wahoos’ performances hot at CAT Frozen Frenzy

HILLSBOROUGH — Personal-best performances continued to ring in the new year for the Wicked Wahoos of Wilson swim team last weekend, Jan. 7-8, at the CAT Frozen Frenzy Invitational meet at Orange County Sportsplex.

Swimming in the Girls 12-Under division, 7-year-old Clara Grzeslo posted personal records in five of her six events while 11-year-old Chase Hawkins dropped his time in four of his five events.  Grzeslo’s best finish came in the 100-yard butterfly as she took 19th in 2 minutes, 3.80 seconds, narrowly topping her previous best by four-hundredths of a second. Grzeslo also knocked 5.81 seconds off her best 100 backstroke time as she placed 44th in 1:46.24. Her other new best times were in the 50 backstroke (49.21/65th), 100 freestyle (1:39.27/66th) and 50 butterfly (57.73/56th).

Chase Hawkins’ best showing by far came in the 100 breaststroke as he chopped 18.50 seconds off his previous best time to finish 38th overall in 1:48.56. Chase also produced PRs in the 50 freestyle (37.80/58th), 50 breaststroke (47.59/20th) and 50 butterfly (43.42/26th).

Logan Hawkins, also 11, trimmed her best time in the Girls 12-Under 100 breaststroke, taking 5.21 seconds off her previous best with a 29th-place finish in 1:42.27. She also placed 20th in the 50 breast in 47.38, 28th in the 100 backstroke in 1:31.01; 30th in the 50 backstroke in 41.54, 33rd in the 50 free in 34.98 and 39th in the 50 fly in 47 seconds flat.

Another meet looms this weekend, Jan. 14-15, for the Wicked Wahoos at the Triangle Aquatic Center Polar Plunge in Cary.
